LSA – Laboratory of Art 2011
Olga Chalkidou was born in Athens. She is a designer (architectural-graphic) and video artist-performer. She studied BA (Hons) Dance Performance (Roehampton University-AMC, 2009-10), where she combined choreography, video art and projection. She is also a graduate of the School of Civil Engineering (BEng) with postgraduate studies (MSc) in the field of European construction at the British universities of Birmingham and Coventry University respectively. She has executed projects in Interior Architecture, construction, graphic design and artistic production.
Since 1992 she had been actively involved in dance, participating in performances and courses (contemporary, flamenco, traditional, improvisation, physical theatre). She has attended seminars on composition and poetics of space (M.Chaniotaki-2011), lighting design (A. Politakis-2024) and stage composition (P. Mexis-2025).
Her creations (2011-2015) include: ‘Flamen_Co 2×1’ (Athens-Stockholm), ‘Emergence’ (Duncan Dance Centre), ‘In Circles’ (M. Cacogiannis Foundation, Attic Conservatory, KET, NTUA).
She explores how space and its components interact with bodily movement, incorporating technology in the creation of interdisciplinary performances.
Today she has her own space/workshop in Chalandri, where she offers design and consulting services in interior architecture, 3D visualization and graphic design. She continues to research the composition of space through architecture, psychology, neuroscience and metaphysics.
Project /participation with LSA at PQ2015 with Greece/ student section
“Fibers” – 2014 – 2015 – inspired by the human hand itself, the tissue that exists under the skin. I studied the feeling of that thread that can be fragile but at the same time strong and that the human hand can weave in its own way. This way is essentially the change of perspective and angle of view. The study led me to the optical fiber and the power of light.
I organized an interaction with video projection at the laboratory with real threads, strings and ropes, and with participants who weaved them and entangled them in space.
It was presented at the Metsovio Engineering School and at the Quadrenialle Scenography Exhibition in Prague PQ2015 in June 2015 (Student Department under the supervision of Maria Chaniotaki’s laboratory).
