LSA Annual Course in Theatre Design/ Scenography 2018 – 2019

Faidra Apostolika was born in 1978 in Karditsa. All summers of her childhood were spent in a village in Agrafa called Neraida (The Fairy), where she began to observe nature and its mechanisms.
She studied architecture and art at Huddersfield University in UK and afterwards at the University of Patras.
Springing from her student years while having contemporary dance courses, she was particularly interested in the relationship between dance and architecture, exploring the production of spaces as a result of human movement.
Onwards, she studied at the Laboratory of Scenography Athens, where scrutinized in depth the concept of semiology.
She lives and works in Athens, during the winters.

Two lovers
Him and Her
Three types of dance:
1. Martha Graham
2. Contemporary dance
3. Contact improvisation
Seven elements:
1. The dandelion (the flower), love. “People are only conquered by fairy tales”
2. The flow, the water: “The universe exists only through movement. There is nothing but vibration.”
3. The hourglass, time: All things in the universe are created from the same fundamental source of energy and exist within the same fundamental geometric structure: the construction of space-time itself.
4. The metronome, synchronization: When the time comes, it will happen.
5. The distance between us, the paper: Love is the in-between space that exists between two people. Love is made of paper. Every movement can transform it.
6. The line, the illusion: The fact that we can see each other is an optical illusion.
7. The traces, the magnification: Everything we do leaves traces. What we are is the trace of a DNA.
Ten scenes
1. Once upon a time
2. The wind
3. A violin
4. Change
5. Red line
6. A contrabasso
7. Destiny
8. Maybe…
9. “You had me at hello”
10. Sunrise

Valasia’s Symeonidou “Ephemeral Body” is an autobiographical dance performance that outlines the journey of recovery and the research for the physical identity of the performer.

Using the concept of the folding/unfolding of her stage object, the performer unfolds aspects of her personal experience through the relationship with a folded object.

The body constructs, unites, develops and recreates spaces where dipoles such as “movement-station”, “human-non-human” coexist and dialogue, emerging from fragments another life, while at the same time redefining itself.”
