Konstantina Anagnostou
Architect | Scenographer | Lighting Designer | Performer
Konstantina Anagnostou holds a degree from the Department of Architecture at the University of Patras. Alongside her academic studies, she trained in dance and acrobatics, gradually focusing on performance art within the fields of aerial acrobatics and contemporary dance.
Since October 2022, she has been professionally active in the field of architectural lighting. She is also a founding member of the performance collective Ex Statera, with which she has co-created the show “The Cosmic Egg” among other original productions.
Her work in scenography represents a convergence of her interests in architecture, the performing arts, and lighting design. During her studies, she began to approach space through a scenographic lens, exploring critical architecture and developing spatial compositions that supported imaginative narratives. Her thesis research analyzed the concept of the family home through four cinematic case studies.
My scenographic research was based on Henrik Ibsen’s play A Doll’s House (1879).
My approach to scenography stems from an associative and subjective reading of the text, aiming to create abstract images. These elements together form a retelling of the play’s events through my own personal lens. The narrative is conveyed through various media: photography, collage, a portfolio with a three-dimensional storyboard, experimental constructions, video, and a scale model at 1:25.
My version of the doll’s house brings to the surface the powdered sugar from the almond sweets that Nora secretly eats—despite her husband’s prohibition, meant to protect her teeth. The couple’s home is made of powdered sugar, a space “soaked” in secrets that uphold their seemingly perfect marriage. Yet it is always at risk of collapse—of melting.
Nora and Helmer’s marriage is nothing more than a fragile “bubble” in which Nora is trapped. But she does not hesitate to burst it, as she moves toward emotional maturity and emancipation.
The model captures the action of the final scene, just before everything is overturned and Nora escapes her bubble—while Helmer remains trapped inside it, clinging to the hope of her return.
Participation in the aerial dance theatre project “The Cosmic Egg” by the Ex Statera collective.
A performance exploring the evolution of the universe and the human species within it, grounded in the principles of energy conservation and the fluidity of matter.
Involved in scenography, choreography, and performance. The scenographic concept centered on the use of fabric—the primary material of the aerial silks—which transformed into various abstract forms, enabling continuous interaction between the performers and the space throughout the piece.
