Sophia Athanasoulia (Scenic Voice, Greece, 1991) is a scenographer, performance maker, and multidisciplinary artist based in between Rotterdam and Athens. She studied Theatre Studies at the University of Patras and completed a Master’s degree in Scenography at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. With a background in theatre and music, her artistic practice focuses on creating immersive spatial experiences embedded in a dramaturgical framework. Through scenography, she explores aesthetics and their connection to “sensitive atmospheres,” seeking to bridge real and imaginary places. Using a scenographic palette that includes sound, music, light, and video, she is currently expanding her artistic vocabulary by integrating sculpture into her work. She places particular emphasis on the creation of bioplastics, exploring their forms, textures, and dynamic transformations over time.

In 2016, she attended the LSA laboratory of scenography, where she developed a proposal for Federico García Lorca’s Blood Wedding.

One of her most recent works is Ecometamorphosis, presented at The Crooked Studio in Rotterdam in 2025. The work invites the viewer to glimpse a future shaped by decay, regeneration, and transformation. Inspired by ancient beliefs about life after death, these bioplastic hybrids resonate with forgotten bodies, shifting identities, and untold futures. In an era of increasing dehumanization—where bodies are ignored, displaced, or erased—the work poses the question: what traces will we leave behind? Imagine a world long after us, where remnants of human presence are unearthed like sacred relics. What stories will they tell?
