Anna Sapounaki is a lighting designer working at the intersection of architecture and performance. She holds a degree in architecture from the National Technical University of Athens and a master’s in lighting design from the Hellenic Open University. Her academic research focused on the relationship between architectural and stage lighting—two disciplines with different mindsets but with many potential when combined together. Her professional practice is shared between construction and theater. She has worked as a lighting designer at Luminart Lighting and IFI Lighting on projects involving a variety of building typologies and outdoor environments. In the performing arts, she has collaborated as an assistant set designer in productions such as “Julius Caesar” (dir. Cezaris Graužinis), “Prometheus Bound” (dir. Kostas Filippoglou – Athens Festival, 2015), and “Don Juan” (dir. Michail Marmarinos – Onassis Cultural Centre, 2017), all designed by Kenny MacLellan. She has also worked as a lighting designer on “A Story of Love and Football” (dir. Aktina Stathaki – 1927 Art Space, 2024) and “Ignoramus” (dir. Giannis Askaroglou – Rektifie Theater, 2025). Her approach to lighting is rooted in the belief that light is both a practical tool and a storytelling medium—capable of affecting not just space, but emotions and narrative as well.
